Realignment plans announced by UIL

The University Interscholastic League released district alignments for sports other than football, volleyball, and basketball several weeks ago, with Albany seeing mostly moderate changes. One significant change is softball, where the Lady Lions have been placed in a 10-team district.

The senior-freshman Pink team pulled away in thesecondhalfWednesday, May 22 to claim the 2024 Powder Puff football game at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium. The event is in its third year since being revived by The Feed Store.

Conditioning starts June 3

With the school year now concluded, it’s time for Albany Junior/Senior High athletes to begin preparing for next year. Albany’s summer conditioning program for girls will begin Monday, June 3 with boys starting Monday, June 10 and continuing for six weeks.

Minors team advances to championship

The Albany Little League IndianswontheMinorsCounty bracket last week in the Texas West Little League District 5 tournament to reach the championship round as three local teams advanced in their brackets. Albany finished fourth in the Junior League division, while the Reds were eliminated from the Majors County bracket in the second round.

8 seniors to play in FCA games

Eight of 10 Albany seniors selected to participate in the 2024 Big Country FCA All-Star Festival will report for their all-star appearances over the next two weeks. The festival, scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, June 5-15, features more than 350 of the area’s top student-athletescompeting in six sports in three cities.
