Taxes assessed during 2023 are officially due next week, on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
Voter registration deadline nears
The last day to register to vote in the upcoming March 5 primary election is coming up soon on Monday, Feb. 5, in accordance with the state law that requires voters to be registered 30 days before participating in an election.

Balloon crashes near Albany
A Colorado man was lucky to walk away from a hot air balloon crash last Saturday on the Stasney Cook Ranch about 10 miles northwest of Albany near County Road 157. According to sheriff’s deputy Quinton Lee, the incident occurred about 11:00 a.m.
Horse IQ competitors place well
Two Shackelford County 4-H members posted top 10 finishes in their age groups of the Horse IQ Contest recently at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. “The Fry,e Nitcschke, and Burton families competed,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said.
