Volunteers needed for basket delivery
By Sam Waller
The Albany Ministerial Alliance is in need of volunteers to help distribute Christmas baskets.
The program strives to provide ingredients needed for a traditional holiday meal to families who need assistance.
The drive received 101 applicants this year, with 41 in Albany, 35 in Moran, and 25 through Vittles by Vehicles.
Donations can be mailed to the Ministerial Alliance at PO Box 3084, Albany TX 76430.
Ministerial Alliance secretary Tisha Wilkins said deliveries will begin about 2:00 p.m. Sunday from The Feed Store.
“I usually have everything grouped and ready to go,” Wilkins said. “It’s just a matter of the volunteers showing up, picking a group, and heading out the door.”
Wilkins said families who are picking up their own baskets may do so beginning at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at The Feed Store.
“About seven groups can make the deliveries, then we should have a pretty big number of pickups,” Wilkins said. “I’ll need some extra people to stay back and help me hand those out. If two or three people are in a group, we’ll need about 15-20 people to deliver.”
On Monday, Dec. 13, ag students from Albany High School took nonperishable items from Brookshire’s to The Feed Store. The items were then sorted by sixth grade students from Nancy Smith Elementary School.
