Vicar appointed at Trinity Episcopal
By Sandy Morris
The Reverend Dr. Douglas P. Thomas has recently been appointed vicar of Albany’s Trinity Episcopal Church.
The appointment was made by the Episcopal Bishop of Northwest Texas, the Rgt. Rev. J. Scott Mayer.
Rev. Thomas is on the part-time staff of the Church of Heavenly Rest in Abilene, but has been coming to Trinity one Sunday each month for the past seven years.
During this time, Rev. Thomas has helped officiate at the funeral of the late Pam Farmer, and officiated at the funeral of Betty Law and the graveside service of John Matthews.
Rev. Thomas is the retired professor and chairman of Psychology at Hardin Simmons University where he taught for 19 years.
Born in Brownwood, Rev. Thomas attended high school in Mineral Wells and received his undergraduate degree from California Baptist College.
He received his PhD in psychology from US International University in San Diego, and his theological studies were at the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas in Lubbock.
Rev. Thomas was ordained an Episcopal priest in 2016 and has been a licensed psychologist in California and Texas.
He and his wife, Deanna, reside in Hawley.
Trinity’s senior warden Larry Bell said church members are looking forward to having Dr. Thomas as vicar.
“Doug and Deanna are already beloved members of our church family,” said Bell. “We look forward to his continuing ministry with us.”
