Youth teams finish strong

The two boys teams in the Youth Basketball League participated in the season ending tournament, with the fifth graders winning their division and the sixth graders placing third.
The two girls’ team did not compete in the tournament due to a conflict with another activity.
The fifth graders, coached by Clint Chapman, won all three bracket games to remain undefeated for the season and win the title.
Albany beat Jim Ned in the first game 21-18. Scoring were Clay Chapman 9, Aiden Vickers 7, and Bennett Neece 2.
Albany also won the second game over Eula, 48-28. Scoring were Clay Chapman 20, Aiden Vickers 20, Bennett Neece 4, and Cash Edgar 3.
Albany defeated Hawley in the third round, 37-21. Scoring were Clay Chapman 12, Aiden Vickers 18, Bennett Neece 3, Graham Ceder 2, and Senio Togia 3.
“These boys played well all season to go undefeated,” Clint Chapman said. “Our defensive play was hard to beat. This is a good group with a bright future in basketball.”
The sixth grade Albany boys won two of three games for third place.
Albany beat Eula 25-14 in the first game. Scoring were Zane Green 10, Colter Edgar 8, Connor Smith 4, Logan Balliew 2, and Jaden Green 1.
The team lost to Jim Ned Blue in the second game, 13-10. Scoring were Colter Edgar 6 and Zane Green 4.
The sixth graders beat Eula a second time 33-29 for third place. Scoring were Colter Edgar 14, Zane Green 8, Levi New 4, Connor Smith 4, and Zak Presley 3.
The team was coached by Morgan Smith, assisted by Campbell Terry.
“We are very proud of the boys and their season,” Smith said. “The junior high coaches have a good group of boys headed their way next year.”
