Albany youth who usually spend much of their summer vacation attending local sports camps will have to wait a little longer to see if the use of school facilities is allowed.

According to athletic director Ryder Peacock, AISD is waiting on state guidance for the use of indoor facilities for youth camps.

The UIL, which regulates student athletics in Texas, recently allowed schools to conduct conditioning and skill specific training for students participating in athletics during the next school year.

“The UIL approved the use of facilities for those types of training, but they haven’t opened it up to sport camps yet,” Peacock said. “We think they will allow youth camps to open later if things hold.”

Depending on the timing of the anticipated release, Peacock said that he and other coaches will work to schedule the camps as quickly as possible.

“We are just at a point of waiting to see what they do,” he said. “We hope to still offer the camps if there is enough time left in the summer.”

Youth camps are geared for younger students in ele-mentary grades.
