Youth schedule disrupted by illness, conflicts

Albany’s youth basketball teams have faced scheduling issues through the first three weeks of their season, but competition is ongoing.

Teams of fifth and sixth graders have played two weekends, but games on Saturday, Jan. 15 were cancelled and likely will not be made up, according to league organizers.

Albany’s sixth grade girls team, which has just six players, has yet to play a game because of illness.

The sixth grade boys and fifth grade boys and girls have each played two weekends.

On Saturday, Jan. 29, the girls teams will play at Hawley and the boys teams will play at Jim Ned.

On Saturday, Jan. 8, the sixth grade boys defeated Eula 28-14 and lost to Jim Ned 39-27.

Against Eula, Aiden Vickers scored 13 points and Clay Chapman added 12. Graham Ceder scored two points and Bennett Neece had one.

Against Jim Ned, Chapman tallied 17 points. Neece followed with four points, while Aiden Vickers scored three, Cash Edgar two, and Ceder one.

Also on Jan. 8, the fifth grade girls defeated Eula 18-13 and beat Hawley 34-0.

Against Eula, Tinley Hefner ant Keeley Britting each scored eight points, and Laramie Reynolds scored two.

Against Hawley, Hefner scored 12 points, and Avery Gleitz scored 10. Reynolds added six points. Sawyer Shoaf, Hailey Gleitz, and Kynlee Milligan scored two apiece.

On Saturday, Jan. 22, the sixth grade boys lost 31-22 to Jim Ned and beat Eula 37-24.

Against Jim Ned, Chapman scored 10 points, Aiden Vickers seven, Jakobi Word four and Ace Vickers one.

Against Eula, Chapman scored 18 points, followed by Aiden Vickers with eight, Word with six, and Ace Vickers with five.
