Albany News

Due to scheduling conflicts, the sixth grade girls were the only Albany youth basketball team that was able to fill their roster and play games last weekend.

The fifth and sixth grade boys teams will be back on the road this Saturday, Feb. 1, with games scheduled in Jim Ned, while the sixth grade girls will be in Clyde.

Fifth grade girls coach Loree Lee said that her team would not be playing basketball on Saturday.

“This week we have conflicts with cheer as well as one girl with a broken finger,” Lee said. “But we’ll definitely be playing again on Feb. 8.”

According to Lee, Feb. 8 will be the final set of games for the season.

Sixth Grade Girls

The Albany sixth grade girls split games with Clyde teams Saturday in Jim Ned.

Albany faced Clyde Gold in their first game and came out on top 18-1.

“Our half court defense played really well this game,” said coach Clint Chapman. “The girls ran the offense and were very successful.”

Scoring for Albany were Avarie Myrick 8, Braylee Clark 6, and Caroline Chapman 4.

Clyde’s Black team defeated Albany 30-10 in the second game.

“We played a really good Clyde team, and I don’t think the score resembles how well we played,” said the coach. “The score was 10-6 at halftime, with Clyde leading. We just missed a lot of easy baskets this game.”

Scoring for Albany were Caroline Chapman 6, Braylee Clark 2, and Avarie Myrick 2.

Saturday’s Schedule

The local fifth grade boys will play Hawley at 9:00 a.m. in the Jim Ned high school main gym. Their second game will be with Eula Maroon at the same location at 1:00 p.m.

The Albany sixth grade boys play in Jim Ned starting at 12:00 noon with Jim Ned Blue in the main gym. They swap to the Jim Ned second gym to meet Eula at 2:00 p.m.

The sixth grade girls are scheduled to play Jim Ned Red at 11:00 a.m. in the Clyde High School second gym. They will tip off with Clyde Gold at 3:00 p.m. in Clyde’s main gym.
