The Albany Lady Lions volleyball program will begin preseason practice at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1 at the Albany Junior/Senior High gymnasium in preparation for the upcoming season.

“The girls will need to be here about 7:15 a.m. to make sure they get all of their equipment,” Lady Lions coach M.J. Reneau said.

The practices are for high school teams only. Junior high teams cannot begin practice until the start of school.

The Lady Lions will conduct four days of workouts before wrapping up the week with scrimmages on Friday, Aug. 5 and Saturday, Aug. 6. On Friday, Albany will host Benjamin and Lingleville for varsity scrimmages starting at 11:00 a.m. On Saturday, all high school teams will travel to scrimmage Breckenridge, Mineral Wells, and Paradise starting at 11:00 a.m. at Breckenridge.

The Lady Lions open the regular season Tuesday, Aug. 9 against Breckenridge at home before hosting the Albany Summer Slam Thursday, Aug. 11 through Saturday, Aug. 13.

Reneau said all players must have completed paperwork, including physical exam forms, on file before taking part in workouts.

“The players were given paperwork at the end of the school year in May,” she said. “Extra copies are available if needed.”

Albany players attended a team camp with coaches from Hardin-Simmons University from Monday, July 25 through Wednesday, July 27.

Reneau said she expects about 25 players, which will be divided among varsity and two junior varsity teams, to play this season.
