Volleyball camp set for June 10-12

With two weeks of the summer vacation and a couple of summer sports camps already in the past, local youth still have the opportunity to participate in additional camps coming up in both June and July.

The boys all-sports camp and basketball camps drew large numbers of participants over the last two weeks, but students out for the summer still have more camps to look forward to.

Volleyball Camp

The 2019 version of the Albany Volleyball Camp is set for June 10-12, with coach M.J. Vickers Reneau heading up the instruction.

The coach said earlier this week that about 70 girls have already signed up for the camp.

Registration is still open or can be completed on Monday during the first day of the three-day event.

The sessions will be divided into three age groups. Students entering grades 1-3 will start at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 9:30 a.m. each day. Students in grades 4-6 will meet from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Older students going into grades 7-9 will meet from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Cost of the camp is $25, including the shirt.

Reneau can be contacted at 325-762-0351.

Tennis Camp

New this summer is a tennis camp for students entering kindergarten through ninth grade.

Dates for the camp are June 17-19, with students able to select the numbers of days to attend. The cost to attend all three days is $30, or campers can select specific days for $10 per day. A discount is available for families with two children attending at $50 total, or three children for $80.

Registration forms are available at the Nancy Smith Elementary office or by contacting Lisa Russell at 806-445-3435.

The camp will be divided into two sessions, with K-3 students meeting at 8:30 a.m., followed by grades 4-9 at 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

The camp will be instructed by Russell, with all proceeds benefitting the Albany tennis program.

“There is a need for some new rackets for kids to use, as well as some improvements to the courts,” Russell said.

Russell noted that she has access to about 20 rackets for campers to use during lessons if they do not have one of their own.

Cheer Camp

The annual Albany Cheer Camp is being planned for July 29-31, according to sponsor Lindsey Vaughn.

Cost of the camp will by $45, but discounts are available for parents who have more than one student attending. Registration forms will be made available in July to sign up.

Participants will be divided by age groups, with children ages three through sixth grade eligible to attend from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. each day. They will perform at the Hamburger Supper in August.

Volleyball Team Camp

Coach Reneau also said that the high school team volleyball camp has been set for July 28-30.

The three-day camp is open to students entering grades 9-12 in the fall who plan to participate in the volleyball program.

The camp will be conducted by Amelia Reeves, a current coach who played at Harding University.

“I will be sending out flyers to all the girls later this month,” Reneau. “The fee is $40 per camper.”

Anyone interested can sign up for the camp by contacting Reneau at 325-762-0351.
