The JV boys opened the basketball season at the Woodson tournament last week, winning all three of their games.

The varsity boys will not open their season until after the Thanksgiving break, with both boys teams making the trip to Munday on Dec. 3, with the boys following the JV girls game that starts at 5:00 p.m.

The JV defeated Woodson 28-20 in the first game last Friday.

“Considering it was the first game of the year, I thought we did some good things,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “We ran the floor well, rebounded well and played tough defense.”

Scoring for the team were Keatin Russell 3, London Fuentes 10, Cade Price 4, Barrett Beal 4, Cole Chapman 5, Luke Ivy 2.

The JV also beat Newcastle on Friday, 33-28.

“We came out a little slow in our second game of the day,” the coach said. “We finally got going in the middle of the second quarter.”

The game went into overtime with a tied score of 25-25 at the end of regulation time. Albany outscored Newcastle 8-3 in the extra period.

“I thought we continued to rebound and play good defense, even though our shots weren’t falling for us, and we had to rely on our defense more to pull us through,” said Peacock.

Scoring for Albany were Russell 6, Fuentes 5, Price 6, Beal 4, Chapman 9, Ivy 3.

The Lions finished the tournament with a 44-21 win over Rule Saturday.
