Varsity boys to play today

By Sam Waller

The Albany Lions varsity boys basketball team conducted their first practice Monday nearly seven weeks after most schools around the state and will play their first game Thursday (today) at the Hermleigh tournament.

Boys basketball teams were allowed to start practice on Oct. 27, but Albany was delayed because of the football team’s playoff run, which reached the state semifinals.

As it is, Lions coach Ryder Peacock still won’t have his full contingent this weekend as players recover from football injuries.

“I’m going to be missing three varsity players,” Peacock said. “We’re going to take most of our JV guys with us to have some extra bodies. It’ll probably be after Christmas before I get a full varsity.”

Albany is scheduled to host Hawley on Tuesday, Dec. 21, in the District 10-2A opener for both teams.

“We may change that because they’re still playing football,” Peacock said.

Hawley played in the Class 2A Division I state final on Wednesday night.

Junior Varsity

Albany’s subvarsity teams took last week off after each played four games in the Albany JV tournament Dec. 2-4.

The JV team played Coleman on Tuesday with the freshman team playing the Woodson JV. Results will be reported next week.

Both teams will play follow the varsity schedule in district play.
