A total of 17 members of the Lion and Lady Lion track teams qualified to advance to the area track meet next week in 16 events, including four relays.

Albany hosted the District 10-2A meet on March 31, with the varsity boys team taking third place with 100 points and the girls team finishing fourth with 81 points. The JV boys also finished fourth as a team with 52 points.

The Hawley boys topped the boys varsity division with 157 points, while the Haskell girls won their division with 166 points.

The top four places in each event advance to the area meet in Graham on Wednesday, April 14. Field events in Graham next week will start at 11:00 a.m., with the running session beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The qualifiers are also attending a practice meet for area qualifiers in Bangs on Thursday (today) starting at 4:00 p.m. for field events and 6:00 p.m. for the running session.

“We had some really good performances at the district meet, but there were some disappointments too,” boys coach Rod Britting said. “We wanted to contend for the district title, but some bad luck took us out of contention.”

The varsity boys 4x200 relay was disqualified on a false start.

“I’m really proud of the guys who advanced and those who placed at the meet,” Britting said. “We have nine guys moving on to the next level, and hopefully we will be improving our times and distances for the area meet.”

Girls track coach Dakota Fowler was also happy with the girls advancing in seven events involving eight girls.

“I congratulate the girls who are advancing,” Fowler said. “I’m excited to see how practices go leading up to area.”
