Track teams prepare for district meet

Despite schedule conflicts because of spring break last week, the Lion and Lady Lion track teams competed well at the Eastland meet held March 18.

The varsity boys won both relays they competed in at Eastland and had several jumpers medal, while the girls placed in the lone relay they ran and finished well in field events.

The Albany teams will compete at Breckenridge on Thursday (today) starting at 4:00 p.m. with field events and 6:15 p.m. with running events.

The varsity and JV boys will compete as separate teams at Breckenridge, while there will be only one girls division.

The District 10-2A track meet will be held in Albany on Wednesday, March 31. District teams included Albany, Anson, Cisco, Hamlin, Haskell, Hawley, and Stamford.

The Albany girls teams both took third place at the Eastland meet. The varsity scored a total of 102 points, finishing behind Eastland and Cisco. The JV girls were also third with 38 points.

“I am very proud of every single one of the girls,” track coach Dakota Fowler said. “The girls come to morning workouts with a great attitude, and I even had some girls over the break who wanted to practice more in order to improve.”
Boys coach Rod Britting was also pleased with the results for the boys teams, even though about half of the athletes didn’t attend the Eastland meet.

“Our jumpers really had a good day, and we won both relays that we entered,” Britting said. “I got to look at some of the guys’ times and evaluate where we need to be by the district meet next week.”
