The Albany Lions and Lady Lions track and field teams moved a step closer to district competition on Saturday, March 26, competing in the Buckaroo Relays at Breckenridge.

Albany has one meet remaining on Thursday, March 31 (today) at Santo before the District 10-2A meet on Friday, April 8 at Cisco.

The Albany boys scored 100 points to finish third in the team standings behind Class 3A schools Breckenridge and Eastland.

Boys coach Rod Britting said competing against larger schools has helped the team.

“Breckenridge has a strong team, and running against them was good for us,” Britting said. “Milsap is pretty solid, especially their relays.”

Luke Ivy was the meet’s high-point boy with 28 points. Ivy won the triple jump (42-11) and was third in both the long jump (20-8½) and 200 (23.86). He also ran legs on Albany’s 800 and 1600 relays, both of which finished third.

Cole Chapman won the long jump (21-2½) and was second to Ivy in the triple jump (41-10).

“Both Cole and Luke had some better jumps where they scratched,” Britting said. “The hope is we’ll start peaking at the right time."

Tye Edgar led a 1-2-3 Albany sweep in the pole vault, clearing 13-0, with Luke Marshall second (12-6) and Jayden Lucas third (12-0).

Coy Lefevre was second in the 100 (11.44) and ran on the 800 relay.

Albany also picked up points from Taren Farmer in the long jump and Samuel Rosas in the 800.

“Running-wise, if I can get everybody health, I think we’ll be okay,” Britting said. “Adam Hill strained a hip flexor, so we held him out of the hurdles. London Fuentes has been out a couple of weeks, but I think we’ll have both of those guys for district.”

The Lady Lions scored 45 points to finish fifth in the team standings.

Kiana Roberson won both the shot put (35-1¼) and discus (110-7). Sarah Cotter cleared 5-4 to win the high jump and ran a leg on the 1600 relay, which placed fourth.

Ella Webb was third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles in addition to running a relay leg. Avery Everitt also placed in both hurdles races and ran a relay leg.

Briley Tabor tied for fourth in the pole vault, and Melanie Figueroa was sixth in the shot put.

Albany placed fourth in the JV boys division with 46 points. Lanxton Viertel won both the shot put and discus. Jayce Tinkle won the 200 and was sixth in the 800. Jace Little was second in the pole vault. Jonathan Coody was sixth in the 3200.
