Despite working short-handed, Albany track-sters competed in the Buckaroo Relays in Breckenridge last Thursday, placing in a number of events.

The local high school teams will compete in Hamlin on Saturday, with preliminary running events and field events starting at 9:00 a.m. Running finals will start at 3:00 p.m.

“This was our first meet of the season and we are still getting out feet under us,” boys coach Rod Britting said. “We are pleased with the times and places considering the short amount of practice time we have had.”

The varsity boys took sixth place with 49 points, while the varsity girls were seventh with 34 points. The JV girls placed third with 59 points, and the JV boys were fifth, also with 59 points.

“We didn’t have the entire team at the meet because of all the other extracurricular activities going on at the same time,” coach Ginger Norton said. “I know the girls will get stronger as we work towards the district meet on April 4.”

Norton is filling in as varsity girls coach for Dakota Fowler who is on maternity leave.

Coach M.J. Reneau, who just returned from maternity leave, is handling the JV girls this season.

“Even though we had people out, we still placed third as a team,” Reneau said. “The girls are looking good and are excited for the next meet.”
