Albany track and field athletes came away with three gold medals Thursday, Feb. 23 in varsity divisions at the Breckenridge relays meet.

Albany junior high teams competed at Breckenridge on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Results will be reported next week.

The high school teams are competing Thursday, March 2 (today) at the Bangs Invitational.

At Breckenridge, Kiana Roberson won both girls throwing events, putting the shot 36 feet, 6½ inches and hurling the discus 110-8½.

For the boys, Tye Edgar cleared 12-0 to win the pole vault with Jayden Lucas second at 11-0. All of Albany’s other boys entries competed in the JV division.

“Obviously, we only had a few of our guys for this meet and just wanted to get our feet wet,” boys coach Rod Britting said. “I saw some good things and hope these guys will keep working to get better each week to compete well at district.”

Briley Tabor was third in the girls pole vault and Ella Webb was sixth in the girls 300 hurdles.

The Albany girls had athletes in most of the running events. Avery Everitt ran the 100 hurdles, and Callan Edgar and Marie Hufschmidt competed in the 1600.

The Lady Lions ran teams in five relay races.

The 400 relay team was made up of Casyn Hargett, Madison Parrott, Mimi Ivy, and Brooklyn Abbate.

The 800 relay lineup was Parrott, Ivy, Makenna McNeill, and Webb.

In the 1600 relay, Webb, Gineveve Soders, Everitt, and Maci Hatchett carried the baton.

Tabor, Abbate, Ivy, and Edgar ran the sprint medley relay. Parrott, Abbate, and Hargett ran the super sprint medley, which consisted of two 100-meter legs and a 200-meter anchor leg.

In the JV boys division, Mason McCloy cleared 10-6 to win the pole vault, and Kolt Koemel threw 94-3 to place second in the shot put.

In the super medley relay, Breylon Billington, Jaxson Street, and Jayce Tinkle finished second in 49.3 seconds.

The 400 relay of Billington, Street, Jace Little, and Tinkle placed fourth in 51.1.

“We had a bad handoff, or we could have been in the mix to win it,” Britting said.

In the 800 relay, Little, Street, Tinkle, and Joao Romano placed fifth in 1:47.3.
