The team of Walker-Anderson successfully defended its title at the Albany Golf Club’s Labor Day Tournament, winning a competitive Championship Flight on Sunday, Sept. 4 at Albany Golf Course.
Walker-Anderson shot 130 over 36 holes, edging Waters-Holson by a stroke with Russell-Bodney another shot back in third place.
The two-person scramble drew 42 teams for the weekend, according to Albany Golf Club president Randy Walker.
“We had a full field, and everybody showed up and had a great time,” Walker said. “We had our meal Saturday night, and a lot of people commented that it was a great tournament.”
Walker said golfers avoided any weather issues despite the brief showers that popped up in the area.
“About the last three holes on Sunday, it got really windy and looked like it was going to rain, but we got through and didn’t have any issues.
Other flight winners were Channer-Everett in the First with the weekend’s lowest score at 129, Cook-Holson in the Second, Bennett-Bennett in the Third, and Little-Turner in the Fourth.
The First Flight saw the tourney’s only playoff. Cauble-Sutton outlasted the teams of Hall-Hodges and Lefevre-Wheeler after all three finished at 135.
The field was divided into flights after Saturday’s round.
“This year, there were two to three strokes between all the flights,” Walker said. “It made it really easy to flight the tournament. We didn’t try to put a certain number in a flight, but it worked out great with about the same number in each flight.”
The next event for the club will be the club championship Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 15-16.
