The Albany Lady Lions basketball teamproducedmoreups thandownsduringtheirbusiest week of the season, winning four of six games.

The Lady Lions (5-4) were scheduled to host Throckmorton on Tuesday Dec. 5, but the varsity game was cancelled because of illness on the Throckmorton team.At press time, the two junior varsities were still planning to play, with results to be reported next week.

Albany makes its final outing before the start of District 10-2A play Friday, Dec. 8, with a visit to Clyde.

The Lady Lions got things started last week by defeating Abilene Christian 50-35 on Tuesday, Nov. 28. That was followed by going 3-2 over the weekend at the Munday tournament to finish fourth.

“We’re getting better,” coach Brad Stautzenberger said. “We’re playing together as a team.”

Against Abilene Christian, Kiana Roberson scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Ashlyn Holson scored six points and collected six steals. Caroline Holson had six points, four rebounds, and three steals.

“The girls played a good game all the way around,” Stautzenberger said. “Kiana did a great job scoring and making things happen. Caroline Holson and Braylyn Abbate (four points, three rebounds) did a great job on defense blocking out,grabbingrebounds,and getting some blocks.”

Madi Parrott added four points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Albany shot 48 percent from the field and scored in double figures in every quarter. The LadyLionsled38-19afterthree quarters before being outscored in the fourth.

At Munday, Albany opened with a 59-21 loss to Eula before winning three in a row to reach the third-place game. The Lady Lions beat Munday 42-19, Woodson 46-35, and Rule 64-11 before falling 41-35

“Fatigue-wise, I thought the girls did pretty well getting up and down the court each game,” Stautzenberger said. “Of course, we played Eula the first game, and that was a tough one to start off with.Thenwecameback and won three in a row. We had a tight game against Aspermont that went down to the wire for third place.”

Stautzenberger said one benefit of the weekend was being able to observe a variety of offenses and defenses.

“We threw out a few different things here and there and saw some different competition,” he said. “It helped us out. I thought our hustle and our drive got better each game.”

Junior Varsity

The Lady Lions JV played just one game for the week, defeating Abilene Christian 39-12.

Albany shut out ACS in the first quarter and led 19-4 at halftime.

Zayne Lefevre scored 22 points to leadAlbany, with Ashlyn Miller adding eight.
