The varsity Lion baseball team lost three straight games at the Windthorst tournament last week, but their coach says they came away with several positives.

The Lions will host both Hamlin and Wellington on Friday for a round robin set of games.

The Lions will take the field at 10:00 a.m. against Hamlin, followed by a 3:00 p.m. game versus Wellington.

The JV Lions will play the Hamlin JV at 11:30 a.m. after the Albany and Hamlin varsity game.

Albany will finish the pre-district schedule on Tuesday, March 19, hosting Knox City in a 5:00 p.m. bout.

“We went 0-3 in the Windthorst Tournament,” coach David Fairchild said. “We did have some good pitching performances, and there were other positives. We just need to get more time to practice our hitting.”

The Lions fell 3-0 to Archer City on Thursday to open the tournament.

Ben West pitched through the first out of the fifth, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out nine and walking one. He also led two for three at bat.

The Lions were thrashed in just two and half innings by Gunter, 15-0.

Blaine Kayga opened on the mound, giving up eight runs on three hits, two walks and seven errors. Cooper Fairchild gave up seven runs on six hits, two walks, and seven errors. Max Balliew came in for the final two outs with no hits or runs and striking out one.

The Lions lost to Windthorst in their game on Friday, 2-0.

Cade Neve started the game on the mound, lasting five and a third innings. He allowed three hits and two runs, while striking out seven. Colby Hargett threw two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen.

The Lions also lost a game in Anson on March 4, falling to the Tigers 5-3.

While the Lions out-hit Anson 6-4, it wasn’t enough for the win.

Jackson Chapman started for the Lions on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs over one and a third innings, striking out two, and walking zero. 

Ben West, Josh Dyer and Cade Neve each contributed in relief for the Lions.

Dyer hit a home run, knocking in two RBIs.

JV Beats Hamlin JV

The JV hosted Hamlin’s JV Saturday, picking up an 11-2 win to improve to 6-2 for the season.

William Webb got the win on the mound, with Robert Bailey coming in as relief.

Bailey also had a good day at the plate, driving in several runs. 

Cooper Fairchild and Parker Henry also had several hard hits, according to the coach. Henry was also commended for his job at catcher.
