Tennis teams start out with busy schedule

Albany High School tennis players competed well in their first two outings, which included the Hawley Invitational on Feb. 21 and the Seymour Invitational on Monday and Tuesday of last week.

“Everyone did well for their first tournaments,” said coach Sara Wilson.

The Albany team hosted Miles, Stamford, and Rotan for a meet held at Rose Park on Wednesday, but results were not available at press time.

Local players will also host a tri-meet on March 20 after spring break.

HAWLEY INVITATIONAL

Girls Singles

Sarah Beth Cotter defeated Chumney of Bronte 8-0, defeated Havner of Clyde 8-5, defeated Plant of Ballinger 8-2, lost to Jimenez of Bronte 8-3 for second.

Susie Cormack lost to Brazee of Hawley 8-6, defeated Rogers of Hawley, defeated Dymock of Anson, lost to Hopper of Clyde in the consolation finals.

Girls Doubles

Sidney Bartee and Jayden Smith defeated Maya/Barnett of Comanche 8-4, lost to Speary/Peary of Breckenridge 8-0.

Mixed Doubles

Michael Hernandez and Traci Isbell lost to Connell/Bailey of Hawley 8-6, won their second game, lost to Bell/Dunn of Rotan 8-1.

SEYMOUR INVITATIONAL

Girls Singles

Sarah Beth Cotter defeated Newton of Hawley 8-1, defeated Hrncirik of Seymour 8-0, defeated Hicks of Hawley 8-0 for the championship.

Susie Cormack lost to Hicks of Hawley 8-6, lost to Waggoner of Electra 8-6.

Girls Doubles

Mady Connally and Landree Connally defeated Morrow/Kelly of Quanah 8-6, lost to Correa/Flores of Chillicothe 8-3, lost to Knight/Crow 8-6 for fourth.

Boys Varsity Singles

Cutter Cowart had a bye, lost to Warren of Seymour 8-0, defeated Sossaman of Quanah 8-1 for third.

Boys Varsity Doubles

Brodey Jones and Michael Hernandez defeated Conner/Tole of Quanah 8-2, lost to Bucharan/Mersiovsky of Electra 8-7, defeated Moss/Snyder of Quanah 8-4 for third place.

Mixed Doubles

Luke Ivy and Traci Isbell lost to Connell/Bailey of Hawley 8-6, defeated Tidwell/Scotty of Munday 8-2, lost to Hrncirik/McAdams of Seymour 8-1 in the consolation finals.

Boys JV Singles

Cooper Fairchild defeated Patterson of Electra 6-0, defeated Wood of Quanah 6-0, defeated Doss of Chillicothe 6-0 for the championship.
