A few members of Albany High School’s tennis team saw their first action of the 2020 season on Feb. 20, traveling to Rose Park in Abilene to participate in the Hawley Invitational Tournament.

Tennis coach Sara Wilson said that the six local players who were able to compete last week did “surprisingly well considering it was their first tournament of the year” with limited practice time.

Albany hosted Throckmorton and Cisco on Wednesday. Results will be reported next week.

Albany will be back at Rose Park to play against Miles and Stamford on March 2, then take a week off for Spring Break.

Results from the Feb. 20 matches are as follows:

Girls Doubles

Susie Cormack and Ella Webb had a bye, then defeated Rosales/Rose of Comanche 6-4, 6-3. They lost to O’Shields/Crow of Hawley 6-2, 3-6, 10-2 before defeating Parker/Olney of Hawley 6-2, 6-4 for third place.

Chelsy Parsons and Chloe Daugherty defeated Hartman/Macias of Anson 6-3, 7-5; and lost to Parker/Olney of Hawley 6-4, 7-5.

Mixed Doubles

Brodey Jones and Leddie Leech defeated Patterson/Patterson of Stamford 6-2, 6-5, then lost to Clyde #2 6-4, 6-2. They finished in fourth place after losing to Rotan #1 6-3, 6-4.
