The Albany High School tennis program returned from spring break for its final tournament before district competition.

The District 10-2A tournament will be held Thursday-Friday, March 30-31 in Abilene.

Local players competed Tuesday, March 21 at Brownwood in their last tuneup. Results will be reported next week.

“The Brownwood tournament was our last chance to look at different combinations,” coach M.J. Reneau said. “The seeding meeting is Thursday (today), and district will be next Thursday and Friday.”

The district tournament will have entries from Albany, Cisco, Hawley, and Stamford competing in boys singles and doubles, girls singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. The top two finishers in each draw advance to the Region II-2A tournament, scheduled for Monday-Tuesday, April 10-11 at Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills.

In cases where the loser of a championship match has not played the winner of the third place match, a playback will be held to determine who advances.

The district tournament will play quarterfinals through championship and third place Thursday at Rose Park Tennis Center. Any playbacks will be held Friday at Abilene High.

“We’re looking strong this year,” Reneau said. “We’ve got a lot of experience on our team, and we’re looking to advance several to regional and hopefully on to state.”
