Tennis team hosts 6 other schools for matches

After taking a week off for spring break, members of the Albany High School tennis team will be back in action on Wednesday, March 18, hosting Breckenridge players  at the local courts starting at 2:00 p.m.

AHS athletes will then participate in the Seymour Invitational, with girls playing on March 25 and boys on March 30.

The district meet is set for the following week on April 6 and April 8 at Abilene’s Rose Park Tennis Center.

Albany hosted players from Anson, Cisco, Throckmorton, Lueders, Cross Plains, and Rotan at a local meet on Feb. 26.

“We had about 50 participants last Wednesday,” said tennis coach Sara Wilson. “It was cold, but it gave everyone a chance to get some court time.”

Results are as follows:

Girls Singles

Sarah Beth Cotter defeated Helm of Throckmorton 6-1, then defeated Dyer of Lueders-Avoca 6-0.

Briley Tabor defeated Dean of Throckmorton 6-1, then lost to Denton of Rotan 6-0.

Boys Singles

Corbin Roberts lost to Bell of Rotan 6-1, then defeated Helm of Throckmorton 6-1.

Girls Doubles

Susie Cormack and Ella Webb defeated Mady Connally and Landree Connally 6-2, then defeated Villenueva/Webb of Lueders-Avoca 6-0.

Mady Connally and Landree Connally lost to Cormack/Webb 6-2, then lost to Fagen/Burke of Anson 6-3.

Chelsy Parsons and Chloe Daugherty defeated Villenueva/Webb of Lueders-Avoca 6-3, then lost to Fagen/Burke of Anson 6-0.

Boys Doubles

Luke Ivy and Cooper Fairchild defeated Mikey Hernandez and Keatin Russell 6-2, defeated Bell/Denton of Rotan 6-4, then defeated Dycus/Russell of Cisco 6-0.

Mikey Hernandez and Kea­tin Russell lost to Ivy/Fairchild 6-2, then defeated Solis/Martinez of Anson 6-2.

Mixed Doubles

Leddie Leech and Brodey Jones lost to Bell/Denton of Rotan 6-0, then lost to Dollar/Overby of Anson 7-5.
