Five Albany High School athletes will be competing in the regional tennis tournament next Wednesday, April 17 at Odessa College in Odessa.

District girls singles champion Sarah Beth Cotter, along with two second place doubles teams, will leave for Odessa next Tuesday, with games starting Wednesday morning.

Cotter, a freshman, finished with the top spot after a first round bye and two subsequent perfect matches.

Sisters Mady Connally and Landree Connally ended up with second place medals, winning a play-back for the chance to advance. Mady is a junior, and Landree is a sophomore.

The freshman boys doubles team of Cooper Fairchild and Luke Ivy played teammates Brodey Jones and Michael Hernandez for the second place qualifying spot.

The first round schedule includes Cotter at 8:00 a.m., Connally and Connally at 9:30 a.m., and Ivy and Fairchild at 11:00 a.m.

The local athletes have been working to prepare for the regional tournament since qualifying on April 2-3 at the district tournament held at Rose Park tennis complex in Abilene.
