Tennis players claim titles

Albany tennis players claimed titles in two draws Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Hawley Invitational.

The tournament was played at Rose Park Tennis Center in Abilene.

The Albany netters returned to Rose Park Tuesday for a three-team meet with Hawley and Abilene Christian. Results will be reported next week.

At the Hawley tournament, Sidney Russell won the girls title, while Jaci Chapman and Abi Hale won girls doubles.

The girls doubles team of Caroline Chapman and Chloe Daugherty finished third after losing in the semifinals.

The boys doubles team of Cade Fairchild and Jaxson Street and the mixed doubles pair of Robyn Trail and Woods Peterson both won the consolation brackets after dropping their first-round matches.

Landon Picquet was Albany’s lone entry in boys singles.

Girls Singles

Sidney Russell won 7-5, 7-6 in the first round; won 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals; won 6-4, 3-6, 18-8 in the semifinals; won 7-6 (5) 7-5 in the championship match.

Girls Doubles

Jaci Chapman-Abi Hale won 6-2, 6-3 in the first round; won 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals; won 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals; won 6-7, 7-6, 10-7 in the championship match.

Caroline Chapman-Chloe Daugherty won 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals; lost 4-6, 3-6 in the semifinals; won 7-6, 5-7, 7-2 in the third-place match.

Boys Doubles

Cade Fairchild-Jaxson Street lost 1-8 in the first round; won 8-0 in the first consolation round; won 8-4 in the consolation semifinals; won 8-0 in the consolation final.

Mixed Doubles:

Robyn Trail-Woods Peterson lost 6-4, 5-7, 6-10 in the first round; won 8-1 in the consolation semifinals; won 8-3 in the consolation finals.

Boys Singles

Landon Picquet lost 2-6, 2-6 in the first round; lost 2-6, 2-6 in the first consolation round.
