Moran High School alumna and now Hardin-Simmons University graduate Sydney Ten Cate was recently named the 2019-2020 Academic All-Conference female cross country athlete of the year.

HSU Track and Field representative said Ten Cate is “without a doubt the best cross country athlete the HSU program has ever seen.”

Ten Cate owns the top 11 5k times and the top six 6k times in the history of the HSU women’s cross country program.

HSU representatives said the runner has been named the ASC  female cross country athlete an astonishing 13 times and National Athlete of the Week once during her collegiate career.

Ten Cate won her first individual ASC cross country championship, setting the conference record. This title led her team to a second straight team title.

She also competed with HSU track and field and was selected as the ASC High Point Athlete in Track and Field for 2019.

Ten Cate holds the HSU women’s indoor track records in the 1,000 meter, 1 mile, 3,000 meter, 5,000 meter, and distance medley relay, and the university women’s outdoor track records in the 1 mile, 5,000 meter, and 10,000 meter races.

The Moran and HSU cross county and track and field standout is the daughter of Delisa and Steven Ten Cate of Moran, and the granddaughter of Bonnie Ten Cate, also of Moran.

Ten Cate graduated from HSU in December 2019 with a degree in criminal justice.
