Spring sports officially start up this week with the Albany Lady Lions softball team opening its season at the Clyde tournament, while baseball, track, tennis, and golf are also about to start competition.

The actual start of baseball will depend on how longAlbany remains in the boys basketball playoffs. Albany will host its JV tournament Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 22-24. The varsity is entered in the Hawley-Anson tournament Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 29-March 2, then will host a tournament Thursday- Friday, March 7-9. The Lions open District 8-2A play at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at Hawley. Albany’s first three district games are on the road, followed by five consecutive home games. The first home district game is Thursday, March 28, against Stamford.

Baseball will not play theweekendsofApril5and April 19 because of district and regional track meets.

Golf will tee off for the first time on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Abilene HightournamentatShady Oaks Golf Course. District is set for Monday-Tuesday, April 1-2, at Shady Oaks.

Tennis begins Thursday, Feb. 22, with the Hawley Invitational at Abilene’sRoseParkTennis Center. District is scheduled for Monday-Tuesday, April 22-23, at Rose Park.

Track will begin competition Monday, Feb. 26, at Anson’s Tiger Relays. Five meets are scheduled, includingAlbany’sRoaring Lions Relays on Friday, March 29, before the district meet on Thursday, April 4, at Cisco.
