Sports camps to start next Tuesday

Local students won’t have much time to get bored after school is out this week, thanks to a host of local camps that will start as soon as next Tuesday, May 28.

A different athletic camp is set for each of the next three weeks, along with a cheerleading camp later in the summer. A girls basketball camp is also in the works, but the dates were not available yet.

Boys All-Sport Camp

A three-day camp covering three sports – football, baseball, and basketball – is set for Tuesday, May 28 through Thursday, May 30.

The cost of the camp is $35 for all three days, or $15 per day for each sport for campers who want to pick and choose.

Family rates are also available, which are $60 for two members of the same family or $85 for three.

Participants will focus on a different sport each day, with football set for Tuesday, baseball on Wednesday and basketball on Thursday.

Campers will be divided into two age groups, with students entering grades K-3 at 9:00 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. each day. Students entering grades 4-9 next year will meet at 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon each day.

The camp will be led by coaches David Fairchild and Ryder Peacock.

Basketball Camp

A two-day basketball camp for both boys and girls is planned for Monday and Tuesday, June 3-4 at the local gym.

Sessions will be divided by age, with students entering grades K-3 next year meeting from 8:30 a.m, until 9:45 a.m. Students entering grades 4-9 will meet at 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. both days.

The cost of the camp is $25 per student.

The sessions will be conducted by head girls basketball coach Tate Thompson and head boys basketball coach Ryder Peacock.

Volleyball Camp

The 2019 version of the Albany Volleyball Camp is set for June 10-12, with coach M.J. Vickers Reneau heading up the instruction.

The sessions will be divided into three age groups. Students entering grades 1-3 will start at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 9:30 a.m. Students in grades 4-6 will meet from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Older students going into grades 7-9 will meet from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Forms for the camp were available at the grade school and junior high. Registration and payment is due by June 3 to guarantee a camp T-shirt.

Cost of the camp is $25, including the shirt.

Girls entering grades 4-6 next year will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, as well as the following morning, Wednesday, May 30 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Older students who will enter grades 7-9 next year will meet from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and again from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30.

Registrations will also be accepted on the first day of camp, but a shirt is not guaranteed..

Cheer Camp

The annual Albany Cheer Camp is being planned for July, but specific dates haven’t been set, according to head chearleader Alayna Koemel.

Participants will be divided by age groups, with children ages three through sixth grade eligible to attend.

Participants will be taught group routines and will perform at the Hamburger Supper in August hosted by the Albany Booster Club that kicks off the next sports year.

Pole Vault Camp

A camp for beginning pole vaulters will be held on June 3-4 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The camp will be conducted by coach Rod Britting and will be for students entering grades 7-9 in the fall.

The cost of the two-day camp is $85.
