Sports camps continue
By Donnie A. Lucas
Several youth sports camps are planned for the summer, with one already concluding this week.
The all-sports camp started Tuesday and ends today with two separate morning sessions for different age groups. The camp combined three sports – football, baseball and basketball – with one day of instruction dedicated to each.
Two more sport specific camps are set for next week, with volleyball and cheerleading camps planned in July.
Basketball Camp
A two-day basketball camp is set for June 7-8 at the high school.
The camp is open to both boys and girls and will be divided into two age groups. Students entering grade K-3 will meet from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on both days. Students entering grades 4-9 in the fall will meet at 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. both days.
The camp will be instructed by Ryder Peacock and Tate Thompson.
The cost for the two-day event is $25.
Forms were sent home with students prior to the end of school, but will also be available from either coach or on Monday morning at the lobby of the high school gym.
For more information, parents may contact Thompson at 940-257-4141 or Peacock at 325-762-0253.
Forms must be signed and returned by parents, along with the registration fee. Completed registration forms can be mailed to Ryder Peacock, 375 Ranch Road 1, Albany TX 76430.
Tennis Camp
A new addition to the list of local camps is the Albany Tennis Camp organized by school nurse Lisa Russell.
The three-day camp starts Monday, June 7 and continues through Wednesday. The cost is $75 for the two-hour sessions beginning at 1:00 p.m. each day and continuing until 3:00 p.m.
Students entering grades 3-12 are invivted to attend.
The camp will be conducted by Abilene Wylie tennis coach Rose Bristow, along with other assistants.
Registration forms are available at both the elementary and secondary school offices.
Forms and payments can be sent to Rose Bristow, 374 CR 256, Abilene, TX 79606, or returned back to either school office by Thursday (today). The offices are closed on Fridays.

The cost is $25 and includes a camp T-shirt.
Campers will be divided into three groups, including students entering grade 1-3, who will meet at 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
Students entering grades 4-6 will meet from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon each day, while grade 7-9 campers will meet from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Forms were sent home with students, but anyone needing more information can contact Reneau at 325-762-0351.
Cheerleading Camp
A cheerleading camp for students age three through sixth grade is set for July 26-28.
Sessions will be held at the high school gym from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day.
Participants will be divided into group by age, with members of the junior high and high school cheer teams providing the instruction.
The cost of the camp is $35, with each additional sibling registration set at $20.
Students will be taught cheers and chants, along with a dance routine to be showcased at the annual Ice Cream Supper in August.
Forms are available at the grade school and can be mailed along with payment to Nickie Leveridge, P.O. Box 2050, Albany TX 76430.
The cost of the camp includes a T-shirt if forms and payment are received by July 12. Registrations made after that date will not include a T-shirt.
