Albany Athletics Booster Club will honor the achievements of the Lions and Lady Lion steams Monday, May 13 at the annual athletic awards banquet.

The school year has seen Albany advance to the post season in nine sports and state competition in three. Still competing are the Lions baseball team, which entered the second round of the playoffs this weekend, and the tennis program, which has six entries at this week’s Region II-2A tournament.

The banquet will start at 6:00 p.m. at the high school gym. The meal is being catered by the Ernie’s Spanish Kitchen.

Ticket sales through the school office close on Thursday, May 9 (today). Tickets are $20 apiece.Tickets were provided without charge to athletes.

Coaches for each sport will introduce their teams and announce individual awards. Outgoing and incoming cheerleaders will also be recognized.

Booster Club president Cari Heatly said the itinerary for the evening is still being organized.

Heatly announced the fundraising drive to erect a fourth state championship monument at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium to be placed alongside those erected last year has met its goal of $17,000.

“That total has been pledged, but the money has not been put into the account yet,” she said. “The project is funded, but it hasn’t been officially approved yet.”

Last year, the Booster Club raised $50,000 for monuments honoring the championship teams of 1960, 1961 and 2022.
