The Albany 16U Senior League team had a short season due to the high school baseball playoffs, but still finished the season undefeated.

The local team finished with a 10-0 record in games against Wylie and both the Abilene Nationals and the Abilene Twins from Northern Little League.

“The District 5 officials really helped us out by delaying the season while our guys were still playing UIL high school baseball,” coach Glen Webb said. “We ended up playing a series of five double headers over the last three weeks, qualifying for the district tournament.”

The District 5 tournament started this week, but without the Albany team.

“We had to drop out of the tournament because we have several of the guys playing in the 7on7 state tournament in College Station this week,” Webb said. “Even though it was a short season, there were still many positives that came out of it.”

The coach said that three of the high school players were able to get in extra time pitching.

“We were able to give Blaine Kayga, B.J. Morris, and Colby Hargett a lot of time on the mound,” he said. “They all three did a great job, which we hope will pay off for them next spring when high school baseball starts up again.”

Webb added that the team also benefitted from extra time hitting the ball.

“B.J. hit a home run for us in each of the series we played,” Webb said. “Even though it was a much shorter season than it normally would have been, there were a lot of positives.”

Playing on the team for Albany were Blaine Kayga, B.J. Morris, Colby Hargett, Cade Neve, Jackson Chapman, William Webb, Luke Ivy, Cooper Fairchild, Seth Hale, Porter Wills, and Nate Deal from Baird.

“I really appreciate the kids who played,” Webb said. “They all had great attitudes and had a lot of fun.”
