Scott wins area in four events

Moran’s Alli Scott won four events at the District 13-1A track meet Thursday, April 13, at May, taking the first step toward a return to the state meet.

Scott, a two-time state qualifier, will compete in the area meet on Thursday, April 20 (today), at Hermleigh. A top-four finish at area earns her a trip to the Region II-1A meet Friday-Saturday, April 28-29, at San Angelo.

The Lady Bulldogs finished fifth in the standings with 43 points, while the Moran boys were sixth with three points.

“I’m extremely proud of the kids and all of the work that they put in this season,” Moran coach John Hughes said.

Scott had personal records in winning the long jump (17-1¼) and 100 hurdles (15.62). She also won the high jump (5-2) and 300 hurdles (47.53).

Samantha Hinkle was fifth in the shot put (27-4½) and also competed in the discus. Kacenda Thompkins and LeAnna Sikes both competed in the shot put and discus.

Jayla Bussell was sixth in the 800 (3:15.03) and seventh in the 400 (1:18.7).  Jordan Martin was eighth in the 100 (15.0) and competed in the 200 (33.25).  Terra Thompson finished ninth in the 1600 (10:52).

In the boys division, Connor Hail was fifth in the shot put (36-2½) and sixth in the 100 (11.91). He also competed in the 400 (1:10.7), 200 (30.5) and the discus.

Chase Murk competed in the long jump (13-3), 100 (14.0), 400 (1:15.67) and 200 (34.18).

Moran tied for first place in the JV girls division with 10 points. Nevaeh Husky won the high jump (4-6).

The JV boys scored 12 points to finish fourth. Max Oliver won the shot put (34-1) and was fifth in the discus (64-0).

Elementary Track

Moran elementary athletes returned from the Easter break to compete April 15 at Blanket.

“The kids competed really well,” Hughes said. “A few more were able to qualify for the medal meet in Zephyr.”

That meet will be held Saturday, April 22.

Qualifying for the girls were the 400 relay of Amelia York, Caliann Carroll, Raelynn Henderson, and Jaelynn Courtney, which finished fifth. The boys 400 relay of Andy Barron, Ricky Lee, Christian Rodriguez, and Tyler Dickson-New also finished fifth and qualified.

For the girls, Henderson was third in the 100 and fifth in the 400. York was fourth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100 hurdles. Carroll was fifth in the 100 and seventh in the 200. Courtney was eighth in the 200.

Naomi Garza was third in the 800 and fifth in the 400. Kamelia Alexander was sixth in the 100 and eighth in the 200. Demi Sebree was fourth in the 100, shot put, and discus and seventh in the 200.

Alexis Whitehead was fourth in the 100, seventh in the 200 and fifth in the long jump. Lilianna Rodriguez was fifth in the 100, seventh in the 200 and shot put, and fourth in the discus.

On the boys side, Barron was third in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Lee was fifth in the 200. Christian Rodriguez was sixth in the 100 and fifth in the 200. Dickson-New was 6th in the 100.
