Moran senior Alli Scott won three events at the Region II-1A track meet to earn a trip to state for the third year in a row.

The Class 1A state meet will be Saturday, May 13 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

“I couldn’t be prouder of this young lady,” Moran coach John Hughes said. “She has worked extremely hard to get to this point.  Hopefully, she can pull off the trifecta at the state meet, as well.”

Last year, Scott won the 100-meter hurdles, Moran’s first state gold medal since 1972, and finished second in the 300 hurdles.

At the regional meet, held Friday-Saturday, April 28-29 at San Angelo, Scott won the high jump in addition to both hurdles races. Moran finished seventh in the team standings with 30 points.

In Friday’s prelims, Scott ran 15.67 in the 100 hurdles, earning the second seed just 0.09 seconds behind Bronte’s Emily Jackson, who ran in the other heat. Scott had the fastest prelim time in the 300 hurdles at 50.74.

Scott started collecting gold medals Saturday by jumping 5-2 in the high jump, edging Bronte’s Emalyn Bohensky.

“They both cleared 5-2, but Alli cleared it on her first try and (Bohensky) missed,” Hughes said. “Then the Bronte girl went to 5-3 and missed all three of her attempts. Alli went to 5-4 and missed, but I think she was more concerned with conserving herself since she had it won.”

In the 100 hurdles, Scott ran a personal-best 15.02, beating Jackson by 0.91 seconds.

“Alli jumped out and left that poor girl behind,” Hughes said. “I was telling people this was going to be a race between these two, and Alli was over the first hurdle before (Jackson) was even out of her blocks.”

In the 300 hurdles, Scott ran a season-best 48.16, winning by 0.35 seconds.

“Both the prelims and finals of the 300s were run into a very strong head wind,” Hughes said.
