Moran’s Alli Scott advanced to the Region II-1A track meet by winning three events Thursday, April 20, at the area meet between Districts 13-1A and 14-1A at Hermleigh.

Scott, who won state in the 100 hurdles and earned a silver medal in the 300 hurdles last year, overcame a rough start to the day to win both hurdles races and the high jump. She also finished fifth in the long jump.

In the long jump, Scott landed at 16 feet, 2½ inches – nearly a foot off the personal best she set at the District 13-1A meet.

“She just couldn’t hit the board,” Moran coach John Hughes said.

Scott bounced back to clear 5-4 in the high jump, improving on her district mark. She then ran 16.24 in the 100 hurdles and 47.62 in the 300 hurdles. Both times were fractions of a second off what she ran at district.

“She did all of this while being sick for most of the week,” Hughes said. “I couldn’t be any prouder of Alli for gutting it out and competing the way she did.”

Elementary Track

Moran elementary students wrapped up their season Saturday, April 22 with the Zephyr Medal Meet.

“We finished off the youth track season on a good note,” Hughes said. “We had three individuals place and both relays placed, as well.”

In the girls competition, Demi Sebree finished fourth in both the shot put (18-1) and discus (40-10). Liliana Rodriguez was sixth in the discus (42-2¼).

The 400 relay team of Amelia York, Rodriguez, Jaelynn Courtney, and Caliann Carroll placed sixth.

For the Moran boys, Andy Barron won the high jump at 4-3.

The sprint relay team of James Hise, Ricky Lee, Christian Rodriguez, and Barron finished fourth.

“Needless to say, I’m really proud of these kids,” Hughes said. “Moran athletics looks to be in good shape in the near future.”
