Albany High School junior Sarah Cotter claimed a spot at the state tennis tournament by blazing her way through the regional meet earlier this week, held at the Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills.

Details from the April 26-27 meet were not available at press time on Tuesday evening, but several other AHS players also played well, with the boys doubles and mixed doubles teams advancing to Round 2, and the girls doubles team to Round 3 along with Albany’s other girls singles player.

The local tennis team had topped the district tourney, taking the top spots in all divisions and qualifying nine athletes to advance to the regional level, including Cotter and Sidney Russell in girls singles, Brayden Watson in boys singles, Ella Webb and Susie Cormack in girls doubles, Cooper Fairchild and Luke Ivy in boys singles, and Jacey Chapman and Mikey Hernandez in mixed doubles.

Complete results will be reported next week.

The state meet is set for May 20-21, but the site had not yet been announced at press time this week.
