Runners medal at Coleman
By Melinda L. Lucas
Albany runners have competed in their first two cross country meets of the season, with three local competitors medaling in the most recent event at Coleman on Monday.
Brylee Moore took third out of 56 runners over a two-mile course in the JV girls division at Coleman.
Eighth grader Lute Wheeler was ninth among 111 runners in the junior high boys combined two-mile run, while Caroline Holson was seventh of 83 athletes in the seventh grade girls’ division, also two miles.
Cross country coach Tate Thompson was pleased with the results from both meets, commenting that most of the local participants improved their times from the first event last Wednesday.
“As you can see from the numbers at Eula, this was a very large and competitive meet,” said Thompson. “And we had a good showing at Coleman on a very tough course.”
The next meet is set for Sept. 17 in Merkel for both junior high and high school runners, followed by a Sept. 25 meet in Baird, also for both age groups.
Albany will host a meet on Oct. 2, followed by the district meet Oct. 9 in Haskell.
