Two Albany runners medaled, and a third just missed out Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Hawley cross country meet as the season reached the midway point.

The Lions and Lady Lions began the stretch drive toward the district meet Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Hamlin meet. Results will be reported next week. Albany will have two more meets – Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Rotan and Thursday, Oct. 6 at Anson – before the District 10-2A meet on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Anson.

“Haskell, Hawley, Stamford, and Anson will be our competition for district for the girls,” coach Ginger Norton said. “The last 300-400 meters will make a difference in that race. Hawley and Haskell will also be the competition on the boys side for district.”

At the Hawley meet, Jonathan Coody finished 10th out of 37 runners to medal for the second time this season. Coody clocked in at 20 minutes flat.

“Jonathan is improving his time and is ahead of himself from this time last year,” Norton said.

Albany’s other runners in the boys division were Brayden Watson, who finished 22nd in 22:42, Jayce Tinkle (23rd, 22:43), and Landon Kreitler (32nd, 22:59).

In the varsity girls race, Sidney Russell finished 12th among 61 runners in 14:08, with Briley Tabor 22nd in 14:44.

“Sidney was just short of medaling for the second time this season by two runners,” Norton said. “Briley Tabor shaved off a few seconds in her run.”

In the JV girls race, which had 37 runners, Maci Hatchett earned a medal by placing eighth in 16:21. Avery Everitt was 17th in 17:05, Myleigh Leveridge was 19th in 18:05, and Jaci Chapman was 30th in 21:57.
