Rogers, Hawley crowned MHS royalty

Hannah Rogers and Arren Hawley were crowned Homecoming Queen and King last Saturday during halftime of the Bulldogs’ football game with Lueders-Avoca.

Others in the homecoming court were queen nominees Harmony Slaughter and Johnnie Hise.

Also honored were princess Samantha Hinkle, prince Keagan Kilcrease, duchess Vivi Green, duke Connor Hail, lady in waiting Aydan Moreno, and page Ellis Hise, as well as FFA Sweetheart and Beau, Johnnie Hise and Cotten Campbell.

Homecoming Queen

Hannah Rogers is the daughter of Jeannie Ten Cate and Jeff Rogers. She has attended Moran schools for eight years. 

Rogers has been a cheerleader for four years in addition to competing in volleyball, basketball, track, tennis, and dance for four years and cross country for three years.

She has also been active in FFA and FCA for four years and participated in yearbook and prom committee for two years each.

She has earned all-district and academic all-district honors in volleyball and basketball and academic all-state in basketball. She was a regional qualifier in both cross country and track. She is vice president of the Moran FFA chapter.

Rogers plans to attend TSTC to pursue an associate’s degree in nursing, then transfer to Texas Tech to finish her bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Homecoming King

Arren Hawley is the son of Darren Hawley and Joeann Meads. He has attended Moran schools for 12 years.

Hawley has played football and basketball for seven years and participated in track for six. He earned all-district and honorable-mention all-state honors in football, as well as all-district and academic all-state honors in basketball.

Hawley is also active in FFA.He plans to play football in college and major in physical science to become an athletic trainer.

Homecoming Events

Moran principal Jo Hise said weekend activities such as an alumni assembly and alumni volleyball and basketball games were well received by graduates.

“We had a really good turnout for the alumni volleyball game and had a lot of people show up and play football,” she said. “They had a lot of fun. I heard a lot of ‘I was really sore the next day’ stories.”

Hise said several participants expressed interest in holding the games in the future.

“People were excited about it and they’d like to see us do it again,” she said. “That was encouraging.”
