Renovations reshape AGC tournament calendar

Albany Golf Club continues to undergo a series of improvements as work progresses on renovations to several greens and other upgrades across the course.

Greens No. 6 and No. 9 have already been completed as part of the project, and crews are currently working through the remaining greens. According to club officials, the next greens scheduled for renovation are No. 1 and No. 8, followed by work on greens No. 2 and No. 4. The goal is to complete renovations on all of the greens before moving on to additional improvements around the course.

Once the greens project is finished, work will begin on a new practice green that will be located near the clubhouse. The new practice area is expected to give golfers a better place to warm up and work on their short game before heading out on the course.

The club has seen a number of improvements over the past several years aimed at upgrading both the playability and appearance of the course. New cart paths have been installed in several areas, and the club recently purchased a new fleet of rental carts for golfers.

In addition, several dead or damaged trees around the course have been removed as part of ongoing maintenance efforts. Earlier this month, new trees were planted to replace some of those that had been lost, helping maintain the course’s landscape while also improving conditions for players.

Because of the renovation work, the Albany Golf Club’s 2026 tournament schedule will begin later than usual this year. The first tournament of the season will be the Father’s Day tournament scheduled for June 20-21.

The later start means the club will host eight tournaments this year, compared to 10 tournaments on the schedule last season.

Following the Father’s Day event, the Mason tournament will be held July 11. The Shackelford County Youth & Livestock Association tournament is scheduled for July 18-19, followed by the Sam Tidwell Scholarship Tournament supporting Albany youth on August 8-9.

The annual Labor Day tournament will take place September 5-6. Two additional fall events include the Xi Chi Pi Sorority tournament on September 26 and the Kiwanis tournament on October 2.

The season will conclude with the Albany Golf Club Championship on October 10-11, when members will compete for the club’s individual title.

Wednesday night scrambles will begin on April 8.
