Regular season wraps with big win for Lady Lions

The Albany Lady Lions closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Saturday morning inside the Albany Gym, defeating Colorado City in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16, 25-16. The win was a solid statement heading into the postseason, completing a 6-2 district slate and bringing the team’s overall record to 15-12.

Albany maintained control throughout the match, using timely serving and a balanced offensive attack to keep the Lady Wolves on their heels. The victory also marked the second time this season Albany handled Colorado City, continuing a late-season climb in confidence.

Before the first serve, the program celebrated seniors Mimi Ivy and Madi Parrott, who took the court for their final home match. Both have been key contributors throughout their careers for the Lady Lions.

Although Albany finished as district runners-up behind champion Hawley, the Lady Lions secured the top seed among small schools for the playoffs. That bracket advantage ensures Albany will avoid the larger-enrollment teams — Hawley and Colorado City — entirely in the postseason. Roscoe enters the playoffs as the second small-school seed.

Playoff Bound

Albany will begin its playoff push today at 6:00 p.m. in Clyde, facing Coleman in the bi-district round. The Lady Lions defeated Coleman earlier this year during tournament play, and the teams also met in the opening round of the 2024 playoffs, where Albany prevailed to advance to the area round. The familiarity between the two programs sets up what should be a competitive postseason rematch.

JV Finishes Strong

Albany’s junior varsity squad also wrapped up its season Saturday with a strong performance, sweeping Colorado City by scores of 25-12, 25-14. The young JV team showed steady improvement throughout the year, gaining valuable experience in district play and finishing the season on a high note with back-to-back solid outings.
