The Lady Lion volleyball team wrapped up regular season play on Tuesday, hosting Ranger in a battle for third place in District 6-2A.

Albany won the game in  four tough sets to tie third overall with Ranger out of the six district teams, ending district with a 7-5 record. The win has no effect on the playoff picture.

The Lady Lions advance as the runner-up behind Hawley in the 2A bracket of the playoffs, while three of the other five Class 1A teams will play in the 1A bracket.

Albany drew a bye in the first round of the playoff bracket, but will advance to the area round against Miles, the winner of District 7-2A, who also drew a bye.

The area game against the Lady Bulldogs will be played Saturday, Nov. 3 at Brownwood High School, starting at 5:00 p.m.

The Lady Lions will play a playoff warm-up game against Lingleville on Friday, Oct. 26 at the local gym starting at 4:00 p.m.

Albany defeated Ranger, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19. Details will be reported next week.

The local girls picked up a pair of district wins last week over Moran and Woodson.

Albany traveled to Moran on Oct. 16, bringing home a 25-22, 25-20, 25-15 victory.

“Ansleigh Garcia led the way with passing, which helped set up several of Alli Hill’s 11 kills,” coach Kimberly Hill said. “Blanton Belcher, Alli, and Taylor Scott combined for over half of the team’s defensive digs, and Taylor’s serves came up big for us in the third set.”

The coach added that seven of Scott’s final eight serves in the third set were aces.

“Despite a sluggish start and some up and down moments, the Lady Lions kept their composure and focus to get a win on the road,” said the coach.

The Lady Lions hosted Woodson on Saturday, winning 25-21, 25-23, 25-7.

“The first two sets against Woodson didn’t represent what the girls are capable of,” Hill said. “We had too many serving errors and our passing out of serve receive put too much pressure on our setters.”

The coach said the team battled in the first two sets.

“The third set was a solid team effort that showed the girls how they should be playing every time they step on the court,” the coach said.
