With the district race winding down, the Lady Lions volleyball team split games over the last week with just two regular season bouts remaining.

Albany will be at home for the final pair of District 6-2A games, with Woodson coming to town Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. game. The last regular season game is set for next Tuesday, Oct. 23 against Ranger in a parents night finale starting about 6:00 p.m. after the JV bout.

The Lady Lions are already guaranteed a playoff berth in the Class 2A bracket, along with district-winning Hawley. The remainder of the district line-up of teams are competing for three playoff spots in the 1A bracket.

Albany is hosting Lingleville in a warm-up game prior to the start of the playoffs on Friday, Oct. 26 at 4:00 p.m.

Hawley Game Details

Albany lost a second round game to Hawley on Oct. 9 with sets of 10-25, 13-25, 21-25.

“We didn’t get much together in the way of serve receive and offense during the first two sets,” coach Kimberly Hill said. “We played much better in the third set and looked more like the team I know we have. We were close in the third set, but unforced errors at crucial moments were costly for us.”

The Lady Lions got back on the winning track in Moran on Tuesday, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 25-22, 25-20, 25-15.

The win bumps the team to 10-14 overall, including 5-5 in district.

JV Splits With Hawley

The two JV teams split games against Hawley last week with the White team losing 25-18, 24-26, 14-16, while the Red team won 25-20, 25-18.

“The JV White was a close battle in the second and third sets,” coach Lauren Peacock said. “We made several errors and couldn’t get ahead in the second. Our third set was back and forth, but Hawley got it together with their serve, while we struggled to pass the ball in the end.”

The coach said that the team has come a long way since starting on Aug. 1.

Peacock said that the Red team played a controlled game.

“The team did a great job controlling the tempo and staying in charge of the sets,” she said. “Everyone had a part in the win, and I’m very proud of each one of them.”
