The Albany Lady Lions got in two games last week before the Thanksgiving holiday, falling to Seymour 44-33 on Monday, Nov. 21, at home before taking a 41-23 loss on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Gorman.

The Lady Lions returned from the holiday break Tuesday, Nov. 29 with a 37-29 win at Archer City. Details will be reported next week.

Albany makes its first tournament outing of the season this weekend at the Gorman Tournament. The Lady Lions open play at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, against De Leon before playing Bangs at 11:30 a.m. On Friday, Dec. 2, Albany will play Iredell at 10:00 a.m. and Merkel JV at 1:00 p.m. Opponents and game times for Saturday, Dec. 3, are to be determined.

Against Seymour, the Lady Lions enjoyed a productive first half, but cooled off in the second as the Lady Panthers took control.

“We actually started the game well, which is something we’ve struggled with,” coach Tate Thompson said. “We had a slow third quarter and let them go on a run, then found ourselves playing catch-up.”

Kiana Roberson led the Lady Lions with 12 points with Briley Tabor adding eight.

At Gorman less than 24 hours later, a slow start extended into the third quarter as the Lady Lions failed to make more than two baskets in a quarter until heating up for 14 points in the fourth.

“Right now we just have trouble scoring,” Thompson said. “Defensively, we’ve actually been playing pretty good. We’ve got to learn to finish shots so that we’re not playing from behind.”

Roberson again scored 12 points as just four Lady Lions finished in the scoring column.
