Moran track teams compete

Moran Junior High track teams opened their season Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Breckenridge Bronco Relays.

The junior high teams competed Tuesday, March 5 at the Rising Star Wildcat Relays. Results will be reported next week.

At Breckenridge, Andy Barron placed in three events for the boys team, and Caliann Carroll had the top finish for the girls.

“As a whole group, the kids did well considering that they were competing against bigger schools,” coach John Hughes said. “Not bad for a first track meet for most of them.”

Barron was second in the 300 hurdles, third in the 110 hurdles, and fifth in the high jump. He also competed in the long jump.

Also placing for the boys were Christian Rodriguez (third, 100) and Jason Burge (fifth, 400). Rodriguez and Dylan Herrod ran the 100, 200, and 400. Burge also ran the 200.

James Hise, Zeke Henson, and Tim Hinkle all competed in the 800 and 1600. Hise and Rodriguez also high jumped and Hise long jumped.

Henson, Miguel Rodriguez, and Rob Williams competed in the shot put. Miguel Rodriguez, Williams, and Christian Rodriguez competed in the discus.

For the girls, Carroll was fourth in the 200. Kelsey Rust, Kaylee Sanchez, Carroll, and Lizzie Creek teamed to finish seventh in both the 400 relay and 800 relay.

Other competitors were Seriah Henson in the 1600 and 2400, Naomi Garza andRaelynnHendersonin the 400 and 800, Lilianna Rodriguez and Amelia York in the 100, and Jaelynn Courtney and York in the 200.

In field events, Carroll and Creek long jumped and high jumped. Lilianna Rodriguez competed in the shot put and discus.
