The Moran Bulldogs returned from spring break with a busy week as athletes from high school, junior high, and elementary competed in track meets.

The junior high started things off Tuesday, March 21 at Blanket. On March 23, the high school teams competed at Blanket. On Saturday, elementary students were in May.

This week’s schedule has the junior high district meet on Friday, March 31 at Cross Plains. Both high school and elementary will be in action Saturday, April 1, with high school at the Buckaroo Relays in Breckenridge and the grade school at Rising Star.

High School

At Blanket, Alli Scott won four events to help Moran place seventh in the team standings with 40 points. The senior ran 17.10 in the 100 hurdles, 49.40 in the 300 hurdles, cleared 5-2 in the high jump, and went 15-8 in the long jump.

In the 1600, Terra Thompson ran 10:308, continuing to lower her time from the start of the season. Samantha Hinkle also showed improvement in the shot put and discus.

The Moran boys finished 13th with one point. Connor Hail finished sixth in the shot put at 35-10. He also competed in the 100, 400, 200, and discus.

Chase Murk competed in the 100, 400, 200, and the long jump.

“The kids competed well,” coach John Hughes said. “Most of them had an entire week off, and it showed in some aspects.”

Junior High

At the Blanket junior high meet, Moran athletes made their last outing before the district meet.

On the girls side, Maekayla Kersey competed in the 100, 400, and the 200. Sarah Mendez continued to show improvement in the shot put and discus.

For the boys, Dylan Kinman competed in the 800 and the 400. Garrett Hamilton was in the 400, 200, shot put, and discus.

Landon Moreno competed in the 100, 200, shot put, and discus. Dylan Herrod competed in the 100, 400, and 200. Miguel Rodriguez and Gavin Medina competed in shot put and discus.

Elementary

At May, more than a dozen Moran students continued with their introduction to athletic competition.

“The kids did well this past weekend with some improvement shown by all of them,” Hughes said.

In the third-fourth grade girls, Demi Sebree competed in the shot put (third), discus (seventh), 100, and 200. Kamelia Alexander competed in the long jump, high jump, 100, and 200.

The fifth-sixth grade girls had several athletes place in events with the 400 relay of Lilianna Rodriguez, Raelynn Henderson, Jaelynn Courtney, and Amelia York finishing fifth.

Individually, Rodriguez was in shot put (seventh), discus (fifth), 100, and 200. Henderson competed in long jump, high jump, 100, and 400, while Courtney was in the long jump, high jump, 100, and 200. York competed in the long jump, 100, and 300 hurdles.

Emmie Hise competed in shot put (fifth), discus (eighth), 400, and 800 (third). Naomi Garza competed in high jump, 400, and 800 (fourth). Caliann Carrol competed in the 100, 200, high jump (seventh), and long jump.

The fifth-sixth grade also placed fifth in the 400 relay with Andy Barron, James Hise, Christian Rodriguez, and Rick Lee. Barron was in 100 and 300 hurdles (fifth), long jump, and high jump (second).

James Hise won the 800 along with competing in the long jump, high jump, and 400. Christian Rodriguez added the long jump, high jump, 100, and 200 to his workload, while Lee was also in the 100 and 200.

Landon Herrell competed in the shot put (fifth), discus, and 100 with Tyler Dickson-New in the 100, 200, and long jump.
