Moran teams record tourney wins

The Moran Lady Bulldogs notched their second win of the season and the Bulldog boys recorded their first during a busy week, joining forces to host the Moran Holiday Tournament over the weekend.

The Moran teams resumed action Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Trent. Results will be reported next week. Both teams will take part in the Lueders-Avoca tournament Thursday-Friday, Dec. 8-9.

On Tuesday, Nov. 29, Moran played a doubleheader at Paint Rock. The Lady Bulldogs lost 42-15, while the Bulldogs hung tough before falling 55-42.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the tournament Thursday, Dec. 1, with a 34-27 victory over Trent. On Saturday, Moran lost to Strawn 27-20, then fell to 38-11 to Brookesmith  on Saturday to finish fourth in the eight-team bracket.

The Bulldogs played twice in the tourney, losing 47-30 to Trent on Thursday before beating Abilene TLCA 33-12 on Friday.

Girls Games

At Paint Rock, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind 15-2 in the first quarter and couldn’t catch up.

Alyssa Allred scored six points for Moran, followed by Samantha Hinkle with four, LeAnna Sikes with three, and Neveah Huskey with two.

Against Trent, Moran jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs led 34-10 entering the fourth quarter and held on as Trent made a 17-0 run.

Alli Scott scored 15 points, with Emily Murk scoring 11. Huskey added six points, and Kacenda Thompkins had two.

Against Strawn, Moran couldn’t overcome a 9-1 first-quarter deficit.

Scott scored 13 points. Allred added four, with Hinkle getting two and Murk one.

Against Brookesmith, Moran never scored more than two baskets in a quarter.

Six players scored, led by Murk with three points. Scott, Huskey, and Allred scored two points apiece, and Sikes and Thompkins each added one.

Boys Action

At Paint Rock, the Bulldogs stayed close until the Indians pulled away in the fourth quarter. Moran trailed 15-13 after the first quarter and 28-25 at halftime.

Caleb York led the Bulldogs with 17 points and Ellis Hise had 13. Tyler Waddell added five points, Connor Hail three, with Danny O’Keefe and Chase Murk scoring two each.

Against Trent, Moran fell behind 19-10 in the first quarter and couldn’t recover.

York and Hise both scored 10 points to share the scoring lead for the Bulldogs. Cotten Campbell added four points, and Waddell, Hail, and Zech Henderson recorded two apiece.

Against TLCA, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter and led 26-4 entering the fourth.

Waddell and York each scored eight points, and Hail added seven as Moran saw six of seven players score. O’Keefe and Campbell had four points apiece and Henderson had two.
