The Moran Bulldogs suffered a 58-12 homecoming loss last Saturday against Lueders-Avoca, falling to to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in District 9-1A Division II. Lueders-Avoca (1-5, 1-1) picked up its first win.

“We’re trying to get better, like always,” Bulldogs coach John Hughes said. “Our youth showed with some missed assignments, but the guys played as hard as they could. We got in the fourth quarter again and that’s a big positive.”

Ellis Hise was 7 of 16 passing for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

Aaren Hawley caught five passes for 101 yards and two scores. He returned two kickoffs for 49 yards.

“Our passing game has picked up,” Hughes said.  “I’m happy about that considering we have a freshman quarterback. He’s starting to feel a little better, make better decisions.”

Connor Hail rushed for 44 yards on 12 carries. Keagan Kilcrease caught one pass for 50 yards, and Caleb York one for 29 yards.

Defensively, Hawley was in on four total tackles and Hise had three. Hail, York, and Cotten Campbell were each in on two stops. Hail had two interceptions  and Kilcrease blocked a PAT.

The Bulldogs close out district play at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Throckmorton (8-0, 2-0). The Greyhounds had an open date last week.

Volleyball

On Oct. 19, the Moran Lady Bulldogs lost at Strawn 13-25, 6-25, 7-25.

“We just had a hard time breaking serve,” coach Jo Hise said. “We had a lack of communication.”

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs pushed Ranger to five sets before falling 16-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 13-25. Hannah Rogers, Johnnie Hise, Alyssa Allred and Alli Scott led Moran in serving in the match.

“That was probably the best match I’ve seen them play all year,” Jo Hise said. “It was a very hard-fought game.”

Moran wrapped up regular season Tuesday against Woodson at home.

Junior High

Moran lost Oct. 19 at Strawn 3-25, 13-25.

“We did much better the second set,” Jo Hise said. “It just took a while. We had a hard time receiving serves that first set.”

The junior high team closed out its season Tuesday against Woodson.
