Moran sends 9 to area track meet

The Moran Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs track and field teams qualified nine athletes and relay alternates for area competition last week at the District 13-1A meet.

The Moran girls finished fourth in the team standings with 84 points, while the boys placed sixth with eight points.

The 13-1A meet was held Thursday, April 14 at May. On Wednesday, April 20, the top four finishers  in each event from the district meet returned to May for the area meet with District 14-1A. The top four at area advance to the Region II-1A meet on Friday-Saturday, April 29-30 at San Angelo.

“Overall, I am very pleased with the results,” Moran coach John Hughes said. “I am proud of the work these kids have put in this year, and hopefully we will still be running after next week at the regional meet in San Angelo.”

The boys 400 relay of Ellis Hise, Caleb York, Tyler Waddell, and Connor Hail finished fourth to advance.

In individual events, Hise and Waddell competed in the 400 and 800, while Hail and York ran the 100 and 200. Also competing for the boys were Riley Noble and Cotten Campbell in the shot put and discus.

In the girls division, Alli Scott won three events and advanced in two others. Hannah Noble won two events and advanced in a third, while Emily Murk qualified in three events. The trio was joined on the 400 relay by Alayna Baker to finish third and earn an area berth.

Scott won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and high jump and finished second in the long jump. Noble won the 100 and 200. Murk was second in the 800 and fourth in the 400.

Scoring sixth-place finishes for the Lady Bulldogs were Samantha Hinkle in the shot put and Harmony Slaughter in the 1600.

Also competing for the girls were Hannah Rogers and Vivi Green in the shot put and discus, and Alyssa Allred and Baker in the 100 and 200.
