Kobee Lapp cleared 42 feet 11 inches in his final jump to win the gold medal in triple jump at the Region 3-A track meet last month and earn his way to the University Interscholastic League Track and Field State Championships taking place tomorrow, May 10, in Austin.

The boys 1-A triple jump event will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas campus in Austin.

The stadium is located at 707 Clyde Littlefield Drive.

The triple jump event will take place on P-2, which is near the west bleachers on the same end of the stadium as the field house.

Tickets to the state meet can be purchased online at the UIL website and prices vary from $30 for an all-meet ticket to a student individual session ticket with no re-entry for $7. A day pass for Friday is $20.

A clear bag policy is in effect for Mike A. Myers Stadium. All bags larger than 4.5” x 6.5”, including purses and diaper bags, must be clear plastic and no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”. No outside food or drinks are allowed in the venue. Strollers, umbrellas, banners, and tripods are also prohibited.

MileSplit has Lapp, with his qualifying jump of 42-11.00, sitting in the exact middle of the nine man pack of 1-A triple jumpers.

Leading the field coming into the meet are juniors Isaac Jackson with a mark of 43-11.25, Key’Undre Davis at 43-06.25, and Davaun Perkins with 43-04.00. Fourth seed is senior Carter Abney at 43-01.50.

Lapp is ranked fifth. Max Dayton from Baird, the silver medalist in Region 3-A, follows with a mark of 42-04.25.

“If Kobee jumps like we know he can, he has a good chance of earning a medal at state,” said coach Matthew Hise.

The send-off for Lapp is Thursday, May 9 (today) at 12:00 noon in front of the school.

Coaches Hise and Dakota Fowler will travel to the state meet with Lapp.
